Creating the enemy by creating greater hatred of America

The most dangerous time in world history

WASHINGTON, D.C. (4/22) - There is no question that the US is the most hated country in the world. Survey after survey has shown this. According to a March Washington Post article, "A year after the invasion of Iraq, anti-American views have hardened in Europe and in Muslim countries, where lopsided majorities oppose President Bush and are suspicious of U.S. motives, according to a new nine-country opinion poll."

Just yesterday, President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, a major Arab ally of the United States, said in published remarks that hatred of Americans in the Arab world is stronger than ever because of the war in Iraq. The Bush administration is loosing the public
relations campaign to win the "hearts and minds" of the world.

It looks like it's going to get worse before it ever gets better. Because of miscalculations, misjudgments, underestimates or not recognizing  certain  problems in Iraq, Bush faces more than a quagmire - he may have created an unsolvable  dilemma: He cannot just leave Iraq and he cannot just stay there without placing a new face on the occupation. In chess this quandary is called "zugzwang," all possible moves will weaken your position.

The only solution is to actually, not symbolically turn power over to the Iraqi people. You cannot just rename the occupation and prop it up with US military. The Ahmed Chalabi lead US puppet government has to go. Bush must share responsibility for reconstruction and stop US privatization of Iraqi resources.

He must admit US mistakes and reach out to the EU and the UN and be willing to involve them in the decision process. Bush must stop making the "war on terror" a war on nations and make the war on terror a war "with" nations. We must go out of our way to stop pitting the religions and making this a war of the Gods. We  must become a friend to the world, not a threat. And, we must be a fair broker of peace in the Middle East peace process.

However, it is very unlikely that Bush is willing to sacrifice his own ambitions for an opportunity to make history and democratized the entire Middle East - for the common good of the world.

Rather than make necessary concessions, Bush will drag out the war, increasing U.S. troop strength in Iraq. This will lead to even greater loss of life on both sides, to animosity and the growth of more Muslim radicalism. This will create the ostensible justification for more wars in Iran and Syria. This will created more hatred for America. The cycle of violence will continue so that the cycle of violence may continue.
